I pulled on a bright yellow dress that complimented my skin and paired it with a pair of white heels. I put my hair in a bun and walked out of the house, locking the door behind me.

I got a message that I was invited to some blind date event. I wasn’t sure of how it worked but I was sure that I wouldn’t be coming home alone. After driving for a little over forty minutes, I stopped right in front of a quaint little restaurant that had gold and red decoration elements. I stepped in and I was in awe, it was almost like a second heaven.

“You must be Juliet Winston?” a woman walked up to me and my lips parted in surprised.

“We have your portfolio, there’s nothing to worry about” she giggled and I smiled before nodding.

“Yes, I am” I replied plainly and she led me to where I believed the dates were occurring.

“Great, Welcome to the speed blind date. You’re the last participant we were waiting for. Anyways, let me explain to you how it works. You and four other contestants have fixed seats and every ten minutes, you get a partner who you can talk to about anything and everything. For just ten minutes. If they interest you, you can write their names down and if you interest them, it’s a match...we’ll let you exchange your details with them” The lady, whose name I still didn’t know, said and I hummed. It sounded like a good idea and fun as well.

“Perfect! Have fun!” we stopped in a large room with five round tables in it. Four of the tables were already occupied by women. I walked to the empty table and sat down, placing my handbag on the table. A waitress walked up to me with a polite smile.

“Hello. Would you like anything to drink?” she asked and I ran my tongue over my lip wondering if now was the right time to have some red wine.

“I’d like a glass of whichever red wine you have” I flashed her a smile and she nodded, writing something down before she walked to the other women seated.

“Welcome ladies!” The same woman who addressed me greeted and I leaned into the comfortable chair with my arms folded under my breasts.

“Thank you for coming to our Speed dating event and I hope you remember that the way to make the best out of anything is to have fun while you’re at it” she grinned and walked away just as the lights dimmed and a spotlight came on. The waitress reappeared next to me and placed a glass of wine.

“Thank you” I told her absentmindedly and took the stem of the glass in between my middle finger and my ring finger then brought it up to my lips. I inhaled and calmed down at the familiar scent before taking a small sip, hoping to loosen up.

The event soon started and a woman dressed in a pair of jeans and a cross checkered shirt sat in front of me.
